About AOII

Our Chapter & Values

About Beta Kappa

University of British Columbia

The Beta Kappa chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi is proud to be part of the Vancouver community and the vibrant campus at the University of British Columbia. Our chapter is made up of women who are passionate about leadership, friendship, and making a positive impact both on campus and in the wider community. Since our founding, our sisters have been actively involved in campus organizations, leadership positions, and community initiatives across UBC.Our national philanthropy is arthritis research, and we are proud supporters of the Arthritis Society of Canada. Throughout the year, our chapter hosts and participates in several philanthropic events that raise awareness and funds for arthritis research and support programs. Some of our favorite traditions include Smash Out Arthritis in the fall and hosting fundraising events in the spring. These events bring our chapter together while allowing us to give back to a cause that is deeply meaningful to our organization. Our chapter is made up of sisters from a wide range of backgrounds, interests, and academic fields. With majors spanning disciplines such as sciences, arts, business, education, and design, our members bring unique perspectives and talents to the chapter. What unites us is a shared commitment to sisterhood, leadership, and inspiring ambition in each other every day.

Our Submotto

A submotto reflects the unique spirit and values of each AOII chapter, chosen by its founding members to represent their collective aspirations and culture. It serves as a guiding principle for chapter activities, relationships, and how members engage with one another and the broader community.

Steadfast and Upright of Character

AOII VALUES & ENDS

Values

“The object of this Fraternity shall be to encourage a spirit of Fraternity and love among its members; to stand at all times for character, dignity, scholarship, and college loyalty; to strive for and support the best interests of the colleges and universities in which chapters are installed, and in no way to disregard, injure, or sacrifice those interests for the sake of prestige or advancement of the Fraternity or any of its chapters.”

As expressed in the Object of the Fraternity, Alpha Omicron Pi was founded on the ideals of character, dignity, scholarship, and college loyalty. All members of the Fraternity, collegiate and alumnae, are expected to live these values to the fullest and carry the spirit of AOII into the world around them.

CHARACTER & DIGNITY

Whether you meet an AOII in class, throughout recruitment, off campus, or even after graduation, she is sure to bring light to your life. Members of the Fraternity are called to carry themselves with confidence as they represent our organization and treat everyone they meet with the utmost respect.

SCHOLARSHIP

AOII encourages all members to excel academically and has many programs designed to assist women in achieving their academic goals. Expectations are high but the support provided by scholarship programs, academic development officer resources, and fellow members makes success attainable. The emphasis on these pursuits was instilled by the four founding members of AOII in 1897, and this commitment remains a strong part of AOII today.

COLLEGE LOYALTY

Members of AOII are called to not only serve their chapters and the Fraternity as a whole, but also to be of service to their communities and universities. Whether they are raising money for a local philanthropic cause or spending time cleaning up a neighborhood park, serving as Student Government President or directing a college Panhellenic Executive Board, our members are excelling as leaders on their college campuses and far beyond.

Our most ambitious goals for our members are called our “Ends” and are the end-product of what our organization is ultimately working to inspire in our members.
